EVENTS AS A BUILDING BLOCK FOR TOURIST DESTINATIONS December 15th, 2010
The opportunity to market a destination such as Hua Hin is an old favourite of mine – taking something classic and creating the ambient mood in Hua Hin for the first Annual Hot Air Ballooning Festival in Hua Hin. We are doing this to support the Rest Detail Hotel in its quest for that luxury guest and adding Champagne Breakfasts, luxury cars and Jazz to make them all feel at home! The King’s Cup Elephant Polo which I created 10 years ago is a similar situation of promoting a resort and in the process creating Destination changes. The point is great events support improved perceptions for sleepy destinations which one can argue Hua Hin was back in 1999. Today we see unprecedented growth in this area. Quality Events supported by Private Industry lead to great PR exposure for destinations in turn improve the income of existing and future tourism related projects. Through creative input of its hoteliers in 2000 Hua Hin today boasts a Jazz Festival, a Vintage Car Rally, the Elephant Polo, and many new events including Horse Polo on the Beach, Cricket Sixes, Tennis and more. The world of events is exciting, creative and supportive in growing great destinations globally.
